Auto Insurance

Auto Insurance

Why is it Important?

Auto insurance is required by law in most states for every licensed, legal driver on the road. Banks who underwrite auto loans usually require a certain level insurance in order to finance the purchase. Premiums vary heavily based on age, driving record, accident and moving violation history amongst other factors.

Coverage generally includes liability insurance on every policy, with sole liability being the most basic policy required of drivers. Liability insurance protects other drivers from financial responsibility for erroneous driving on your part, and vice versa.

Auto insurance provides financial protection against physical damage and/or bodily injury resulting from collisions and against liability that could also arise.

Auto insurance may also offer financial protection against theft of the vehicle and/or damage to the vehicle sustained from events other than traffic collisions like a hailstorm.

Most drivers have car insurance because it is the law, but that doesn’t mean you should only buy the minimum required coverage. The right car insurance can help protect you, your family members, your passengers and other drivers from significant costs.

We Are Ready When You Are

Policies are specifically designed to individuals, especially with regard to the amount of premium required for coverage. Term length for most auto policies is either 6 or 12 months long, and your insurer will notify you when it’s time for policy renewal or another premium payment.

There are basically six different types of coverages. Some may be required by law. Others are optional. They are:

  • Bodily injury liability - for injuries the policyholder causes to someone else.
  • Medical payments or Personal Injury Protection (PIP) - for treatment of injuries to the driver and passengers of the policyholder’s car.
  • Property damage liability - for damage the policyholder causes to someone else’s property.
  • Collision - for damage to the policyholder’s car from a collision.
  • Comprehensive - for damage to the policyholder’s car not involving a collision with another car (including damage from fire, explosions, earthquakes, floods, and riots), and theft.
  • Uninsured motorists coverage - for costs resulting from an accident involving a hit-and-run driver or a driver who does not have insurance.
